About Dr. Jen Wehan
I graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh with a doctorate degree in school psychology and completed my internship in Salt Lake City at The Children’s Center where I specialized in the assessment and treatment of young children and families. After completing my degree, my post-doctoral training took place at the Austin Child Guidance Center where I was responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments of children and adolescents as well as individual and family therapy. The experiences I have obtained thus far have confirmed my passion for helping others.
My clinical interests include working with clients who struggle with behavioral and emotional challenges, parent education and support, relational issues, childhood trauma, and attachment difficulties. I also received specialized training in the assessment of autism spectrum disorder. My overall training has focused on evidence-based treatment for a range of behavioral, mood, and attachment problems.
At the APACenter, I provide comprehensive therapy and assessment for children, adolescents, and their families. As I recognize that treatment is not a one-size-fits-all approach when working with diverse clientele, I strive to use a variety of clinical techniques and models, each uniquely utilized to treat clients’ particular needs with a strengths-based approach.
Therapy Approach
I am trained in providing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). I also utilize Attachment-Based Family Therapy (AB-FT) when working with depressed adolescents and their caregivers.
I invest heavily in establishing and maintaining rapport with clients and focus on providing a positive and supportive environment. I believe that children and adolescents thrive when they are exposed to positive encounters with supportive adults. With this in mind, I focus on strengthening the parent-child relationship and work to make my interactions with clients as positive and meaningful as possible. When working with younger children in particular, I work closely with parents to ensure they have a clear understanding of their child’s progress and goals, and provide them with the necessary skills to support their child.
I believe that every individual has an innate capacity for positive growth and development and that my job is to support others in developing themselves to their fullest potential. My passion to make positive differences in the lives of others has allowed me to commit myself to providing clients with the tools they need to effectively manage their emotions and behaviors, strengthen relationships, and make overall improvements in their quality of life.

Assessment Statement
Approaching the assessment process with a comprehensive and collaborative framework allows for involvement of the client, parents, and other professionals in the problem-solving process. Initially, I work with parents to obtain information regarding their child’s developmental history as well as current emotional and behavioral functioning in multiple settings. I find it beneficial to include other professionals involved in their care as a way to gain more in-depth information. This allows me to obtain the information needed to answer assessment questions and address the reported concerns. The assessment provides helpful information regarding specific areas of functioning that can then be used to inform treatment plans, provide access to additional services, and promote an environment for voluntary learning and social/emotional development.
