About Dr. Watkins For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the human experience. This fascination has led me to spend the past decade acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be an effective therapist. My formal journey in the field of psychology began at the University of Illinois, where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree. It continued at Adler University, where I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology. I strive to be a socially responsible clinician who is humbled by the striving and resilience of people from all walks of life
I have experience working in community centers, child guidance centers, schools and universities, psychiatric hospitals, private practices, and forensic settings. My diverse experience has prepared me to effectively help individuals and families from all ages and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Life can be a challenging experience that leaves us feeling stuck or overwhelmed. During these difficult times, we might struggle to find someone who truly understands the extent of our suffering. Feelings of self-doubt and confusion can leave us struggling to figure out what to do next. In our attempts to persevere, we might pursue problematic solutions or repeat detrimental patterns of behavior.
My therapeutic approach has largely been shaped by Alfred Adler. He once said, “Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.” In other words, we have the power to overcome our experience and work towards change. I will meet you where you are in your change process, and support you as you overcome life’s challenges. I value working together as equals to create an experience that is tailored to your needs. Whether you are looking to better understand yourself or life in general, working on deep-rooted issues, or just in need of someone who will listen and understand you, I am confident we can work together to accomplish your goals. I utilize a variety of cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques, psychodynamic interventions, and mindfulness.
I want your experience of therapy to feel safe and comfortable. However, there will be moments that are challenging. Together, we can work to overcome the difficulties you face and help you create the fulfilling life you deserve.
